    Business Editors/Health & Medical Writers

PHILADELPHIA--(BW HealthWire)--Dec. 15, 2000--Philadelphia International Medicine (PIM) has launched its Institute for Education to promote the health care expertise available in the region to international providers.
Lucia Rosenberg was named the new institute's director.
"Philadelphia is truly one of the world's centers for medical knowledge - home of the first medical school and first women's medical college; a training center for one of every five physicians in the United States; world center for medical research with more than $400 million of research grants. The Institution for Education will help other nations become more familiar with the role this region plays in shaping the future of medicine," said Andrew Wigglesworth, president and CEO of PIM.
Rosenberg said the institute will be an opportunity "not only to increase exposure internationally of Philadelphia's unique status as a world-class life sciences center, but also an opportunity to promote shared learning with colleagues overseas."
Rosenberg will work with the region's hospitals, medical schools and university-based schools of business administration to offer unique learning experiences for international physicians, hospital administrators and other health care professionals.
She also will expand opportunities for physician exchanges, arrange for short- and long-term specialized fellowships for international physicians, and utilize new technologies for distance learning.
Previously, Rosenberg coordinated educational seminars for the Greater Philadelphia Health Strategy Network.
She has operated her own health care consulting business since 1997; served as vice president, managed care, of US Physicians Inc.; vice president of planning and development of Greater Atlantic Health Services; vice president of operations at National Health Screening Council and director of support services at Booth Memorial Hospital.
She has a masters of business administration from Villanova University and, while in high school, lived as an exchange student in Iran.
Rosenberg can be contacted by calling 215/735-3269, or through e-mail at lrosenberg@philadelphiamedicine.com.
